New members are always welcome, whether they've been in scouting for years or are complete newcomers. Joining explorers is similar to joining other sections of the scout movement: the new explorer attends a 'link' period of several meetings before they are invested as a unit member.
Please note that some of the sections are nearing full capacity. New members are still welcome, but choice of section (e.g. North, South, West) may be limited from time to time.
Joining from Outside Scouting
Please e-mail the section you wish to join (more information on the different sections can be found here).
Moving from Scouts
Your scout leader may wish to introduce you to the unit, so it's best to contact them first.
To ensure any cross-section awards are carried over, please ask your scout leader to send us a note containing details of (a) any staged badges awarded, (b) numbers of nights & hikes away completed, and (c) date awarded and number of your most recent participation award.
Becoming a Young Leader
Young leaders are people in the explorer age range that assist with the younger sections of the scouting movement. If you know which section you wish to assist with, please contact the leader of that section; otherwise e-mail the young leader unit, who will be able to suggest a section.
There is one compulsory training module that all young leaders must attend, as well as many more optional modules. After moving up from scouts, you cannot become a young leader for the troop you have just left until 6 months have passed.
